Hard working dads of the natural world

A few weeks back was Father’s day. When my daughters wished me with a lovely card they had made, it got me thinking. There are so many hard at work dads in the natural world as well whose efforts go quite unnoticed. They carry on with their paternal duties without expecting any appreciation in return. These highly motivated and dedicated fathers deserve every bit of praise and it was time to hail them too....

Made a visit to Amboli, in the last week of July, when what looked like the monsoon was at its peak. It was literally pouring cats and dogs. I had heard about the heavy rains that Amboli receives during the monsoon, but it was beyond what I had envisioned :) Pouring, pouring and relentless pouring. Even when there was a slight reprieve, the place would very quickly get covered in thick mist....

Agumbe calling......

Another tryst with Agumbe, the rainforest paradise……,just couldn’t resist the temptation of visiting this amazing place again. Joined Darter for yet another photography workshop to this place, was wonderful….. True to its reputation, it was pouring and pouring, like there wasn’t going to be a tomorrow. Lots and lots of rain, lots of leeches, lots of getting soaking wet with absolutely no concept of ‘being dry’….and amongst all these, lots and lots of fun, learning and photographing…....

Macro Magic from Agumbe - III

Earlier posts here and here. During the camp, we stayed at the Rainforest Ecology - Kaalinga camp site, in tents pitched right inside the rain forest. The site is being run by the famed herpetologist Gowri Shankar and his team. The place has all the basic amenities which are very neatly maintained and the food, wow, very sumptuous, made from locally available ingredients, is worth writing home about….Nothing like getting back to good food after the arduous trekking trails…....
