Kaas with an iPhone

Kaas, the plateau of bliss, the ‘valley of flowers’ of south India is a biodiversity hotspot very close to Satara, in Maharashtra. This place is well known for the annual bloom of various types of wild flowers and its amazing reptilian life. It was very high on my wish-list of places to visit for a long time. It finally happened over the past weekend. With all my camera gear in tow, went there to make the best of the opportunity....

The forests of central India, namely, Tadoba, Bandhavgarh and the likes, are very popular and well established destinations for tiger lovers. The reason probably is bifold. One being the relatively higher density of tigers, resulting in a better chance of sighting one in the wild in comparison to many other parks in India. The other, in my opinion, is the feeling of exclusivity that one gets on the safaris and also the safari’s, relatively longer duration....

Vigors's Sunbird

Made a visit to Amboli, in the last week of July, when what looked like the monsoon was at its peak. It was literally pouring cats and dogs. I had heard about the heavy rains that Amboli receives during the monsoon, but it was beyond what I had envisioned :) Pouring, pouring and relentless pouring. Even when there was a slight reprieve, the place would very quickly get covered in thick mist....

Molting Cicada

Recently, got a chance to visit Amboli, a truly fantastic, serene, laid back little hill station, nestled in the Sahyadri hills. A place very rich in a wide variety of flora and fauna. While over there, I kept coming across a lot of shed exoskeletons of Cicadas. They were everywhere. Seemed as though it was their molting season. Many of the Cicada nymphs appeared to have emerged from their underground abode to shed their skins and enter into their adult life....
